Kolsay lakes

We invite you for a hike or a horse ride in the area of Kolsay Lakes, about 300 kilometers away from Almaty. The road goes from Almaty up to Chilik, then to Kegen and proceeds to Saty, a small village.

Lakes have beautiful deep-blue color, surrounded by flowering grasslands, cliffs, Tyan-Shan fir-woods. They are called blue necklace of North Tyan-Shan.

The road will bring you to the first lake, The lowest height, at of 1,818, stretches for 1 km.. It is accessible by road and there are comfortable guesthouses and campsites. The middle (Second) Kolsai lake (2,252 m) is the largest and the most beautiful, is 5 km from the first lake.

Third lake is 6 kilometers away from the second lake, the difference in altitude is 800 meters. Water in the lake is very cold. In summer the temperature in this area is about 30 degrees centigrade at daytime and 5–10 degrees centigrade in the evening. Tourist season: from June through September.

Dark blue color of water, silence and calmness around are the specific features of Kolsay. The amateur of trekking will admire a fascinating panorama of lakes surrounded by rocks, forests of broad-leaves trees, fir-trees and mountain alpine meadows.

The excursion’s duration is 1–2 days.
